Poem :: Stillness

Floating on the River Murray
The warmest light gradually dimmed
Stillness begins settling its way

Feathered wings rest in their place
Roosting upon outstretched arms
Camouflaged in dark embrace

Deafening silence is thunderous
Broken by mirrored heartbeats
Lovers filled with promises

Quiet winged ballerinas dressed in black
Dance like shadow puppets in great distress
Comforted by light peeking through the cracks

Happiness is peaceful silent stillness
Of its black mirrored mercury surface
Brings slightly curving burgundy red lips
